I'm a newb in the kitchen. I am not very good at timing my cooking and today was a perfect example of that. I thought that my turkey burgers would cook up quicker than my potato wedges so I started the potatoes way early. Bad idea. By the time it was ready to serve the meal, the potato wedges were totally overcooked, bitter, and rubbery! Not the crisp, tastey, yummy wedges I was hoping for!
What a hot mess!
I boiled the potatoes first, while I browned up some garlic in a fry pan. Then drained the potatoes and tossed the wedges in the garlic yumminess. I was so excited because it smelled SO good! Then I stuck 'em in the oven to crisp up. Maybe I didn't need to boil them first. This is what I get for following a recipe!
The turkey burgers, on the other hand, I could not find a consistent recipe. Some put bread crumbs, some didn't even mention bread crumbs. Some put onion power, other put chopped onions. Some put ricotta cheese, others mozzarella cheese. It was confusing me so I thought I'd blend all the different recipes I read and just throw stuff in.
I finely chopped up garlic and onions in the food processor, put a few splashes of Worcestershire sauce, few squeezes of Dijon mustard, some salt and some pepper. It didn't look right so I put a few dashes of oregano (only dried herb I had), and some paprika. Still didn't look right. I found some cheese in the fridge so I put in some parmesan cheese and roughly chopped up some string cheese and stuffed the middle of the patties with it.
And of course, you've gotta add the good ol' American cheese!
Grilled up some onions and jalepenos to jazz it up.
I thought they tasted just okay but John said "WOW!" when he took his first bite. But that guy will eat anything. I'm blessed with a husband who eats EVERYTHING! If I served him cardboard, he'd eat it up and say it was delicious. He's awesome like that.
I rarely crave burgers.. it must have been Ruby's burger update. Now, the question I ask my self every day, "What shall I make for dinner tomorrow?"
oh!!! that cheese in the middle looks good! i think i want burgers again!
ReplyDeleteYum. Anything grilled makes it better!
ReplyDeleteI am the exact same way when it comes to cooking.. I recently started myself. And I always have the main meal out before the side dishes. But my husband appreciates it for what its worth. I'm planning on making turkey burgers this week - I got ranch powder mix. That might be an easy one for you!
