Korea - day 4

By day 4, my body had adjusted to the time difference and I was able to sleep in a little. It probably was because my body was exhausted from all the walking we had been doing for the past 3 days. 

We had plans to meet our friends Aeri and Annie, from our old church.  They are both out here teaching English and livin' it up in Korea! 

We had my fav meal in Korea, chicken kalbi. I haven't found anywhere in LA that makes it as good as they do in the motherland. So good, no joke.  The lil sis also agreed that it was one of the best meals she had here.

Then off to Caffe Bene!  When I was here several years ago, there was not a single one of these cafes. Now, there's one on every corner. Maybe even 2 on each corner! I'm not complaining! The drinks and the shaved ice (aka bingsoo) is sooooo good!  Rumor is that there is one in the works in Ktown! EXCITED!

We said our goodbyes and came back to meet the cousins for a movie date to watch Spiderman 3D.

 

Day 4 weather:  Hot and sticky.  What's new.  No rain, though.

Day 4 high: Going to the Korean theatre!  Love it!  The caramel corn is delish, they serve beer and dried squid, what's not to love!  I know the CGV in Koreatown is close enough, but it's just not the same! ** Side note: Never was a fan of Spiderman but I think Andrew Garfield did an amazing job.  Totally a fan.  Can't wait for the next one!

Day 4 low: My body was so tired from all the walking and being on the go from morning til night! Exhaustion started to kick in big time.

johnny's birthweek

The birthday celebration began last Sunday and ended yesterday. A whole week of celebrating my dear husband's birth.

On Sunday, after service, I took John to watch the movie Jiro Dreams of Sushi at a small theatre in Pasadena. Then we were off to his favorite sushi restaurant! The movie was great. The sushi restaurant, not so much. John was so disappointed with the food, he's now on a hunt for good sushi places! Any recommendations?

On Tuesday, his actual birthday, we went out for burgers at The Standing Room! This place is appropriately named The Standing Room, because it's a BYOC kind of place - bring your own chair! There isn't a seating area, just a counter to order gourmet burgers in the back of a liquor store! Grab and go! So awesome!

We had some truffle parmesan fries and John got the "dressed" burger with blue cheese, carmelized onions and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't remember. I, on the other hand, got the "naked" burger (pictured above). A good, plain ol' burger. YUM!

This past weekend, my sis and bro-in-law were nice enough to take us both out to celebrate AGAIN! We met up at Urbano Pizza Bar, in downtown LA.

The potato pizza with fingerling potatoes, brussels sprouts, roasted garlic, bacon (my fav), and a parmesan cream sauce.

Then finished off the night at Seven Grand.

I think we're done celebrating his birth for this year... but now moving on to celebrating 2 years of marriage! YAY! April is jam packed with awesomeness!

labor day with my momma

Labor day weekend started off with a mini-feast at my parents' house. It was a random mix of things, but the highlight of the lunch was these derrishious sea creatures!

I do not like sashimi, but I love me some abalone! YUMMMMERZ!

Then off to the movies; back to AMC for me! Seriously. I watch way too many movies. But my mom really wanted to go watch The Help and she never says she wants to watch a movie! The last movie she saw in the theatre was Marley and Me and before that it was Titanic. This lady doesn't get out much.

Lil sis came out to the South Bay and we took my mom out and seriously, my mom was lovin' it! It's like she's never been out or something! She was ooh-ing and ahh-ing at everything and just happy as can be. Does this mean we're horrible daughters and we don't take her out enough?

If you have not seen The Help, GO SEE IT! It is a great movie that'll make you laugh and cry. It's so good, I was excited to watch it again! Yes. I saw it twice.

I think this movie sparked a new love for movies in my mom! Now, after seeing a few previews before the showing, she wants to watch several movies come December. She's a funny lady, she even thought this KIA car commercial with the dancing hamsters was a movie and leaned over and said "Wow! That looks like a fun movie. When does that come out?" My lil sister and I were laughing so hard we almost peed our pants. My mom's a FOB and we lovez it.

friday date night

After a long week of working I needed a date night! I just wish I wasn't as tired as I was... I seriously felt like a zombie. John was chatting away at dinner (at our favorite spot) and I was snoozing with my eyes open! After that, I really wanted to go home to sleep but we've been waiting for the movie Our Idiot Brother to come out! (Great movie, btw. Paul Rudd is awesomeness.)

Watching movies at the theatre has become ridiculously expensive, but we LOVE our movies! So, it helps when friends "sponsor" date nights by giving you gift certificates! So blessed to have such generous friends. Thank you, Chai Chai!!!!

What a great end to an exhausting week! And even better, it's a 3 day weekend!

After John and I attended a late evening service in L.A. we thought we'd head over to Westwood to watch Conan O'Brien: Can't Stop. Who doesn't love Conan?! (besides the head honchos over at NBC). Team COCO all the way.

It's an interesting documentary following Conan's tour on the road while he was legally prohibited from appearing on TV. It was more serious than I thought it would be, but it still shows Conan's quirky humor. It was fun, but I don't know if it was worth $10.50! I much more enjoyed his humor when it was free.99 on T.V.

Anyway, that's how John and I started our 4th of July weekend. And then tomorrow, we're off to my mom's for a small family get-together BBQ. Hope everyone has a safe and fun 4th of July!
